This one is a little wordy. (I got it from the New York Times. Their Motto: Tea Party bashing on page one, other news begins in section C.) I’ll post it at the end of this entry. However, the News of the Weird summary says it all.
How lousy is it in Ghana if the Chief of the Akwamu people spends half his time in New York City in a smelly garage?
The question is Imponderable.
And before you rush to judgment, the article states that the Chief has a ten-room palace and his office has judicial powers. Plus he gets to bless the yam harvest. Granted, ten rooms is not much as far as palaces go, but how big is your palace?
So despite having a palace and a seemingly cushy life, the Royal Couple travels to NYC to work in a smelly garage.
I ask you again, how lousy is it in Ghana if the Chief of the Akwamu people spends half his time in New York City playing Louie DePalma in a cab company?
The question is Imponderable.
And I hope you got the Louie DePalma reference.

I think that being a third world royalty isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. The former king of Tonga lives in Auckland. (The new king of Tonga, his son, lives in London). He had a big house in an upscale suburb and I got the impression that no one in Tonga was too bothered.

I wonder how many people I run across in everyday life are third world royalty. The subway conductor? The guy who painted the fence outside my building?

Hmmm. Now I’m going to have the ” TAXI ” theme going through my head for the next 24 – 48 hours. Or the Harry Chapin song ” Taxi ” ( W / the key verse changed – ” She was gonna be an actress, & I was gonna be a King “….. )
This is a strange world we live in, & interesting times…..

& there was a European man who was ruler over a tribe in W. Africa, I’m not sure what African country. ” Tribal Chieftain ” may be trumped by ” King “, but having any kind of influence could be a little ” heady ” perhaps, if only on a ceremonial level.
