Sneak Peek of the Week of February 19th, 2012

19 Feb

February 19, 2012

No one escapes Mr. Blog’s Tepid Ride!

MONDAY- The Celebrity Apprentice is back and no one messes with Donald Trump. He’s kicked the New York Minute right out of the Monday slot this week.
TUESDAY- As always, American Chopper. Will we see Jason Pohl?  As sure as a five year-old pees in the pool, yes we will.
WEDNESDAY- The New York Minute settles into its new time slot, this time with a story about a man definitely not named Ray.
THURSDAY- A Picture Postcard taken by yours truly featuring urban renewal.
FRIDAY- Imponderable # 37.
SATURDAY- Saturday Comics features some old friends in a way you may not expect.

(And yes, I know the phrase is “no one expects the Spanish Inquisition” but it just didn’t quite make sense.)

Shame. I actually have a New York story now.

Last week I was on holiday, and tried to withdraw some cash from an ATM. It refused and put up a message saying “Your card issuer has declined this transaction”. I tried it in another, and another and got the same thing from both. I travelled half an hour on the bus to the nearest branch of my bank and they told me there was a security block on my card.

They rang up Card Services at their HQ for me and the woman on the phone said “Ok, we’ll go through some of your recent transactions. The most recent was an attempted withdrawal of £287,000 in Brooklyn, USA at 8pm last night”. I asked them to repeat it to make sure I heard right.

“That wasn’t you, was it sir?”. I said no, and pointed out the previous transaction had me in Stafford, England 4 hours previously. Needless to say, my card has been cancelled awaiting replacement. I went straight to the pub and ordered a large whisky.

Can you go to Brooklyn and have the place destroyed on the chance you might get the person who tried this?

      Will do.
I have a similar story about Philadelphia but there the ATM seized my card and kept it. That was a Sunsay and it was a nightmare fixing the bank’s mistake.

Which part of Brooklyn so I can avoid it?
