Poor little deli. Seems almost ashamed to be a deli. That must be why it’s out of business. If only the little deli had some pride, it might be in business today.
But seriously, what happened on that awning? What’s with the little word “deli” in parentheses? I’ve looked closely, it’s not too far from me in Brooklyn. That’s not an addition, the word didn’t cover up or replace something else. It was made that way. But why? I have no idea.

I passed this planter as I walked down Ocean Parkway here in Brooklyn, towards Coney Island yesterday. It’s in front of a very large building that has nothing to do with baseball.
This is Brooklyn, however, and Brooklyn has a very well-documented baseball heritage. Click here to read about my own family connection to Sandy Koufax.
However, this particular planter has some history itself. It was a member of the 1986 World Champion New York Mets!
Just kidding
I’m not sure where that planter came from, but I do have a sneaking suspicion.
