Thanksgiving is over, the local lite FM station went all-Yuletide last week, and parts of the U.S. just had their first major snowfall. So is it Christmas yet?
It may as well be, since I just watched A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas is up next. And I’m looking forward to Heat Miser and the rest of the Rankin Bass goodies.
So is it too early for me to post a Christmas story? I’ll at least have the decency to wait until Monday, when it’s December and Christmas is slightly more appropriate.
I’ve avoided reposts this year (only 2!) but there are a couple I have to post, they are Mr. Blog traditions and you can probably guess what a couple of them are. (HINT: Chef Boyardee is involved in one of them.)
So there’ll be a mix of old and new coming up, some classic laughs, and up next is the new, the Christmas story I mentioned earlier. It’ll be here on Monday.
Enjoy!
It’s not Christmas for me until I see ” A Christmas Story “, ” ELF “, etc. I haven’t watched Patrick Stewart’s ” A Christmas Carol ” in years. & I like the Doctor Who Christmas episodes. ” Voyage of the Damned ( Space Titanic ) ” & ” A Christmas Carol ” with Matt Smith ( & another endangered starship ) are 2 of the best, IMHO.

There’s a couple of things like that for me, like Christmas Wrapping on the radio, and Mr. Magoo’s Christmas Carol, which is rarely on TV in its uncut form so I always pop in the DVD. (There’s one more I won’t give away since I am – literally right now!- working on an upcoming post.)

It’s also been a LONG time since I saw ” The Grinch ” & I am NOT referring to the Jim Carrey film. Accept no substitutes !

I saw it last week a few days before Thanksgiving (!) but it’s great no matter when.

I gotta look more. I’m building ( actually RE – building ) my holiday music list on Youtube after Google + destroyed all my YT playlists. I had everything from Mannheim Steamroller & Trans – Siberian Orchestra to old standards in my original list. I listen to a LOT of Classical around the holidays.

& no ” Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer ” crap, either. That song wore out its welcome long ago.
I found ” The Star Wars Holiday Special ” on YT, but I think they yanked it ( As George Lucas breathes a sigh of relief….. 🙂 ) Happy Life Day, George !

Does Disney own that too now? They do anything for a buck, it’ll be officially released (or at least a DVD extra) at some point.

George Lucas admits that a Star Wars holiday special was cheesy & he’s embarrassed by it, but if he gets residuals rather than the Disney Empire he might not object TOO much.

That didn’t stop him from putting gout a Boba Fett figure based on the carton that played during the special. http://outlandct.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=42_139&products_id=765

That was Fett’s 1st appearance ever. The rest was disco – era cheese.

We forgive them – I think. I mean, they gotta earn a paycheck. Or had to, because they’re both dead.
I wonder why the original Star Trek never had any Christmas episodes ? I mean of all 430 crew members, Spock was the only non – human, as opposed to TNG.
Maybe a Christmas – themed episode just didn’t jibe with Gene Roddenberry’s humanistic vision. It was the 60’s & still a relatively ” innocent ” era, even with Vietnam dividing the country, etc.

Hmmm, I don’t really have a guess. Maybe Rodenberry had a problem with all the commercialism of Christmas? Of course, he himself started a whole merchandizing company to cash in on Trek, so who knows?

His utopian vision in ST was pretty much ” secular humanist “, although I really have nothing against that particular school of philosophy.
