HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
I LOVE HALLOWEEN! Without a doubt, from when I was just a kid until today, Halloween has been my favorite holiday. Even my birthday comes second. I love everything about it- the costumes, the spooky stories, the ghosts, the ghouls, and the traditions most of all. And in my book, there is no tradition better than It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown. Linus in the pumpkin patch, Charlie Brown getting nothing but rocks, Snoopy’s World War I adventure, and the ending with Sally’s righteous indignation. If you are reading this on Halloween, make sure you see it! ABC is airing it tonight!
This particular post is a joy for me because in addition to an old tradition, it incorporates a new tradition. For the second year in a row, I’ve gone to Rise of the Jack-o-Lanterns at Old Westbury Gardens and this year, to my delight, there was the perfect pumpkin for me to bring you tonight. I present, the It’s the Great Pumpkin pumpkin.
I do believe that nobody – no philosopher, no humanist, no scholar, no freakin’ body – has ever understood so much about humanity as a whole and human beings as individuals as Charles Schulz did. Any mention of his characters can only bring joy and renewed amazement and admiration to my heart, to the point that – even if I do not celebrate Halloween – this time I will say “Happy Halloween to everybody, and especially those who keep waiting for the great pumpkin in spite of what everybody else says, because the alleys of the heart are way more important than the roads of logic!”

Very beautiful. I agree with every word of it. There is Peanuts and then there is everything else (though Calvin and Hobbes comes close).
