There was a huge debate among The Editors and Staff of Mr. Blog’s Tepid Ride about the caption. Leave it or change it? The leave it faction won by a slim margin.

A vast improvement, in my opinion. Family Circus ranks right up there with Nancy and Marmaduke in the Irritating Comic Hall of Fame.

Funny you should mention Marmaduke as he is the subject of an upcoming Saturday Comics. And it is not pleasant.

ANYTHING is an improvement over the original Family Circus. No disrespect meant to the late Bil Keane, but the Family Circus just had TOO MUCH cloying, sugary – sweet, diabetes – inducing cuteness to be anything approaching funny. Preachy & moralizing, yes, funny, no way.

They even did 2 animated ( Christmas & Valentines Day ) specials in the 60’s or 70’s, & they were basically scripted to appeal to 5 – year – old kids. They still have them in clips on Youtube.

Has anyone ever seen the ” Dysfunctional Family Circus ” ? Keane’s original panels with new crazier captions.

I think there was a scene in it where the kids wanted Santa to bring their dear old Grand – dad back from the GRAVE for Christmas. CREEPY ( In my best Dana Snyder voice ) !!

Grand – dad made plenty periodic appearances in ” angelic / ghostly ” form as it was.
