Woody Allen needs no introduction. You either know him from his movies or you know him from Soon-Yi. You think he’s funny or you don’t. What most of you probably don’t know is that there was a Woody Allen comic strip. There isn’t much info about it online and most of what I found was copied from wikipedia anyway (as are many term papers, thus explaining the high failure rate of high school students) so I’ll do the same thing. The difference? I tell you when I’m copying from wikipedia.
Inside Woody Allen was a comic strip about the film actor and director Woody Allen. Drawn by Stuart Hample, the strip ran from 1976 to 1984.
The strip was based on Allen’s real life character and focused on his neuroses, angst and frequent psychiatric treatment. Writers for the strip included David Weinberger.
I began this post by saying that Woody Allen needs no introduction. One reason I didn’t need to give him one is that the strips below do a great job of introducing him on their own.

The only Woody Allen movie I enjoyed was ” Sleeper “. Any other Woody Allen movies I saw I simply ENDURED, much like a root canal or proctology exam. Or the sound of a kid raking his fingernails on a blackboard.

I dated this girl who RARELY had any ideas or suggetions about movies to go to or other entertainment, for that matter, just basically left it up to me. So the one time she actually makes a SUGGESTION, it’s for a Woody Allen movie ( I forget w / one ). 90 – something minutes of my life I’ll never get back…..
Ever see the series ” NORTHERN EXPOSURE ” ? Ed, a young half Inuit / Aleut Alaskan & aspiring film – maker, dreams that he’s in the small town where the series is set & he meets Woody’s mom. Before the whole Soon – Yi thing.

I clearly remember reading this on Sundays. Once Woody recounted a pioneer ancestor of his who attempted to thwart an Indian attack by forming the wagons into a letter C.

That’s fantastic, but it reminds me of Steven Wright, who I think is dreadfully awful. Some of it has to do with his delivery, though.

I’ve used many of Stephen Wright’s quotes in my artist trading cards. They’re so off the wall that they lend themselves quite well to my particular form of art. One of my favorites of his is:
“The restaurant serves ‘breakfast at any time.’ So I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.”

Dennis Miller is interesting. Sometimes I love him, Sometimes I think he just tries to show off with esoteric references and attitude and forgets he’s supposed to be funny He was great on SNL with Weekend Update but when they put him a sketch he just seemed out of place. Colbert I just never paid enough attention to have an opimion.

Miller tries to get too cerebral & pseudo – intellectual. Colbert relies on snark, but still funny.
The late George Carlin was funny until he turned into a cranky old fart in his later years, supposedly insulting / haranguing a couple of audiences.

Carlin ? I LOVED how he played with words, but his ” Religion is Bullshit ” bit could get a bit rusty w / time, even though I kind of agree with parts of it.
What about Penn & Teller ? Not comedy, specifically, but clever as hell. 😉

Penn and Teller are BRILLIANT. I used to listen to Penn’s radio show and he was always interesting. I saw them in Vegas and loved the show.

Did Penn & Teller do the flag – burning bit ? That was considered very controversial & it was debated whether or not it fell under the heading of ” freedom of speech “.

I saw it on YouTube, but in person, WOW !! Freedom of speech or unpatriotic desecration ? Or both ? Tough call. I think they did it in an episode of ” The West Wing ( God, what a great show !! )”.
