Late Night Movie House of Crap: Ray Dennis Steckler

Watch these clips and I’ll explain later.

Tell me that isn’t the original Walking Dead. I dare you.

This is  in some way considered a tribute to the Bowery Boys. On behalf of Slip, Satch, Gimpy, but most of Leo Gorcey and Huntz Hall, I apologize.

Of course, this wasn’t the first time Leo Gorcey was insulted coast to coast:
Remember this from The Honeymooners?
Ralph looks in the newspaper: Look! The Bowery Boys Go To Bagdad! and it says here Leo Gorcey sings!
Alice: You know I don’t like musicals!
Ralph: If it was a musical would they let Leo Gorcey sing?

These films and others are the brainchildren of Mr. Ray Dennis Steckler. Many of those films also starred up and coming actor Cash Flagg, also known as…. Ray Dennis Steckler. He was also known as:

  • Sven Christian
  • Sven Hellstrom
  • Harry Nixon
  • Michael J. Rogers
  • Michel J. Rogers
  • Wolfgang Schmidt
  • Cindy Lou Steckler
  • R.D. Steckler
  • Ray Steckler
  • Cindy Lou Sutters – his “porn name”

Selected Filmography as a director:

  • The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies (1964)
  • The Lemon Grove Kids (1965) segment in film Lemon Grove Kids Meet the Monsters
  • Rat Pfink a Boo Boo (1966) (featuring Romeo Barrymore and Kogar the Swinging Ape.)

There are others, many, many, terrible others, but these three are the ones he is infamous for. If you consider yourself a true fan of bad movies, you must see Rat Pfink a Boo Boo, his Batman parody. It is worth if for the soundtrack alone.

Have I ever steered you wrong?

The band in The Lemon Grove Kids have more talent than Steckler, and they’re probably all retired insurance salesmen by now.

I still occasionally encounter someone trying to argue his misunderstood genius. Mental giants, the lot of them.

There is no genius of any kind here, though at least Rat Pfink is competently filmed.

BTW, I suspect that movie was filmed in exact chronological order, as the transformation from Lonny Lord and gardner to Rat Pfink and Boo Boo takes place at the exact midpoint of the film, about to the minute, and from there on it a very different film. It is like they threw away the old bad script and continued with a new bad script.

With Ed Wood, still no genius, but you can argue creativity and improvisation.
