The Flintstones were a really big deal back in 1960! I know, it’s hard to imagine now, but a cartoon show in primetime that primarily targeted adults was unheard of. The Flintstones were an obvious takeoff on “The Honeymooners” with Jackie Gleason, which had been extremely popular in the 50’s.
I was about 12 or 13 when the Flintstones first started and I can remember my mother and I popping popcorn and getting all settled in to watch (I think it was on Friday nights in the beginning.) My grandfather had a twelve inch Barney Rubble plastic toy on top of his television set because he loved him so. (If they had made Lawrence Welk action figures, he would have had one of those too.)
When I get bored with what’s on TV, I watch the Flintstones on the Cartoon Network–but only the early ones. After they introduced “the Great Gazoo” (voiced by the late great Harvey Korman, btw) it was all downhill from there.

I was born in the 70’s but the Flintstones were still running. In addition to the parent show, Pebbles and Bamm Bamm had shows, Fred and Barney had Saturday morning adventures aimed at kids, Captain Caveman shared a show with them- they were all over the place.
My brother and I had large plastic Fred and Barney banks that I still miss to this day, and until just recently a small replica of the Flintstones car sat near my computer.
I still love that show, and I think the earlier the episode the better. My favorite episode? The Twitch!
