The Saturday Comics: Superman Gets Outed On CBS

2 Jun

June 2, 2012

DC has relaunched all their comics with new number one issues and revamps. That includes their biggest icon, Superman, who also got a pretty meh-looking new suit to boot.

But some things about Superman never change. He still comes from Krypton. He is still a reporter. He still wears glasses as a disguise. His biggest arch-enemy is still Allen Funt. His secret identity is still Clark Kent. He… why are you looking at me like that?

Lex Luthor? Superman’s biggest arch-enemy? Nah, Lex doesn’t even have his own TV show. Check this out:

Well I guess that about wraps it up for Superman. I googled it, the next issue featured a disgraced Clark Kent being rejected as a What’s My Line? contestant. Later issues found Superman getting insulted in a Johnny Carson monologue and Clark Kent getting pranked on Truth or Consequences.

Can’t really call either of those issues high-points in a superheroic career.

The Saturday Comics: More Little Nemo Homages

Some time back I featured Little Nemo in Slumberland by Winsor McCay. Go ahead and click on this link, I’ll wait.

Towards the bottom I showed some modern homages to the classic strip:

Spongebob:

Sandman:

Since then I have come across a few more.

Here is one from Mutts, which is a modern classic and a strip you should check out, which you can by clicking this link.

Next up are two pages from  Superman Secret Files and Origins #1, which was published in 1998. Stuart Immonen did the honors here:

There are more pages but this gives you the flavor. If you don’t know Little Nemo, you are clearly missing out on a strip that casts a long shadow.
