Picture Postcard: Lonely Soldier

2 Aug

August 2, 2011

I took this picture some months ago. This is a breakwater in Lower Gravesend Bay here in Brooklyn.

I’ll admit it isn’t the greatest picture I ever took. I was standing on the seawall and looking down from about ten feet up. Notice anything unusual? You might not notice anything at first, but take a look at the thing sitting on the rock in the center of the shot.

It is some sort of small figurine. You can clearly see the base. I snapped this with my cell phone so the resolution isn’t the best but it is not a rock. It is a small figure that someone deliberately placed there. I don’t know how long it has been there, but it is so small that the tide will surely wash it away. I was just standing by the water, looked down, and there it was. Keep in mind that this is not a beach. This is a seawall the end of a street behind a shopping center. There is no access unless you hop a fence and climb down and over those large rocks.

OBEY!

We’ll kick off the week with the secret origin of a super-villain and follow it up with an ethical debate. There will be a new Picture Postcard from the “I was in the right place at the right time” category, and since Imponderable Week went over so well, we’ll kick off a series of Friday Imponderables. All this, a Saturday Comics featuring super-heric cats and dogs, and more, next week on Mr. Blog’s Tepid Ride.
