Today In King Kong History: August 10th, 1921

13 year old Albert Kong Jr. had his braces removed. The dental work cost his parents $4,000, a large sum in 1921. His father, Albert Sr., had to work two shifts at a furnace factory while his mother, Constance, did laundry for the neighbors.

Years later, all the expensive dental work would be undone when he chewed on a particularly tough native. His father never let Kong hear the end of it.
