I saw these two kits at Toys R Us and I had to have them. They are reissues of classic kits I built as a kid in the 1970’s. Although these were the only 2 in the store, the line also contained Frankenstein and Dracula but some peeking around online showed that TRU only carried these two. I have no clue if the others were reissued but if the were, I want them. As a kid I built all the monster models, including the glow in the dark versions, like Godzilla with his glowing hands and scales. So when I saw them on the shelf I snatched them up and ran to the register. Best part? They were on clearance- 50% off! I got them for $5.98 each! Not a bad price for a piece of my childhood.

Beautiful! And I can understand your reaction, if I found the Mego monsters (and superheroes) in a store, you’d hear me howl from the other side of the ocean…

I still have some Universal Monsters statues that I painted years ago. I put them out every Halloween. I’ll post a picture next month.
I also used to have the whole line of 3 3/4 inch Universal action figures from the 70’s/80’s but they were all notorious for simply falling apart. I only still have the Creature from the Black Lagoon. I’ll post that pic too.

I’d love to see the pics 🙂 I have the three busts that came with the Universal Monsters dvd box, but I never got them out of the box as busts have always disturbed me, for some reason… Too bad, they are very well made

I know those busts. I wanted them but I didn’t want to pay the price tag. But the DVD sets were great. Anytime I can get a complete set of a series I’m happy. But I never did get the Creature from the Black Lagoon set. Even now on eBay it is kind of pricy. When I take the pictures of the statues I’ll also post on of the Superman statue I own. You’ll appreciate it- it is the old school Golden Age version of Superman.

The first black lagoon creature film is included in the set, but not the sequels… I should really get a statue or something of the classic monsters, considering the endless number of days I spent playing the Universal monsters with my friends when I was a child (I was the wolfman).
The classic Superman? I want it too!

Only the first movie? I thought the bust came with this set:
The Superman statue came boxed in a set with this book. If you scroll through the preview (Click “look inside”) you’ll see the statue:
I also have this smaller statue, which I think is really cool:

Wrong link for the book, any way you can fix it? The small statue is pretty cool! 🙂
The Universal box set I have is part of the legacy collection, but it’s this one http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/universal-monster-legacy-13dvd-box-227106
The phantom of the opera has really nothing to do with the other films and is a bit of a bum note in the song, but the rest of the box is great.
These are the busts http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51GNHPFQNJL.jpg

The American set was slightly different, but the busts were the same:

Oh, I see.. basically, the European version had an extra dvd (four films) – strange, usually it’s the opposite…

Cool! I had a Frankenstein model I put together in my youth. Could never get the skin color right–he was green like the Hulk.
