You ever see Hardcore Pawn? If you haven’t, and consider yourself lucky, then imagine the shop from Pawn Stars dropped in the middle of the worst part of Detroit and specializing in buying Xboxes from crackheads and you’ve got the idea.
The usual customer is unemployed and is pawning her kid’s DVD player for $10. And I when I say “unemployed” I do not mean “without a job,” I mean “unemployable.” Lots of missing teeth, fat but with belly shirts, drunk, stoned, cannot put two intelligent words together, you get the idea. It is Detroit.
It is a very classy show.
One man calling himself Grizzly Bear stood around and growled at the staff. He had a tatoo of a bear taking a dump and wiping his ass with a rabbit across his chest.
The shop is run by the Gold family. Seriously, a family named Gold running a pawn shop. That should be enough to tell you what’s coming up. There are three members of the family working in the shop.
Les Gold
If guys running pawn shops didn’t already have a bad name he would give it to them. He wears a v-neck sweater and a jeweler’s loupe around his neck on a thick gold chain. His whole gimmick is that “we are here to help people.” Bullshit.
I understand that this is a business and he is here to make money. Gotcha. But he isn’t fair. For example, a guy came in with a pedal car he paid $25 bucks for and was asking for a few thousand. That was ridiculous. But so was Les’ offer: $50. They went back and forth and countered and counter-countered and the guy went down to $100 and Les hardlined him at $85. That was the eventual selling price. So what was so unfair? Les took the thing to the back and told the camera that “with a little cleaning” he could get $4,000 for it. FOUR THOUSAND. And he nickel-and-dimed the guy down from $100 to $85. Good business? I guess, but don’t tell me you are there to help people. This guy is a sleaze. He will buy someone’s ring so the customer can make his rent and in the same breath try to sell him something else. Time after time he argues someone down to the cheapest possible price, only to brag about how much he could make on the item, typically a profit of well over 500%.
His father used to run a smaller shop in an even worse part of Detroit. BTW- most shots they show of the city are empty of people. That is a total FAIL city. If you are reading this in Detroit I can only assume you are on your way out. Best of luck.
So in one show he took his family to see the old shop where he worked with his father. Les talked about all the good times he had, all the warm memories the place held. But all the warm memories were about the time a gunman broke into the store and killed someone. He took them to the abandoned building and pointed out, with great care, “this is where I hid from the gunman,” “This is where the body lay,” “that is where the bullet hit the cop.” And those were his warm and fuzzy memories.

Seth Gold
Can you see the arrogance?
Seth is a prick with a stick up his ass. He is an uptight jerk.
His biggest problem is that he thinks he knows everything and he thinks he is always right. He thinks he is better than his father and much better than his sister. Years back, his sister Ashley managed the pawn shop but she left to have kids. When she came back, Seth had moved up and he resents her. He is always fighting with her, yelling at her, and running to his daddy to complain about her. As far as dealing with customers he is as cheap as his father but quicker to antagonize them. He gets easily annoyed, tries to be snarky to the customers, they get angry, and he smirks as security takes them outside.
A guy came into the shop to sell his paint guns. They really didn’t want them but told the guy they had to try them out so the gang went out into the parking lot with the guy’s guns and had a paintball fight, using all the guy’s paint pellets and wasting about an hour of his time. When it was over, Seth offered the guy $5. That isn’t a typo, five dollars. Not only did the guy turn it down, he complained, and very rightly so, that all the ammo they used was worth a lot more than that. He left with a net loss.

Ashley Gold Broad
“Broad” is her married name, not commentary.
Her brother hates her. Her employees are afraid of her. For some reason I like her. I even went out of my way to use an attractive picture of her. She speaks her mind and she is outspoken but upfront and you always know where you stand with her. That said, she is as cheap as the rest of the family and toes the whole “we are here to help you” line. She is in a pretty bad position. It is hard enough dealing with the low-class entities that go to her shop, but she also has to put up with her family’s nonsense. She knows what she is doing, those guys should shut up.
Their customers don’t always have their heads screwed on right. They are always yelling for no reason, cutting lines and starting fights. Have I mentioned that this is in the worst part of Detroit? But the family does themselves no favors by constantly losing things. It seems like in every other episode someone’s items are misplaced or lost, and the Gold’s try to turn their error around on the customers. Somehow it their fault that their property is missing from the stockroom.
The show really just leaves a bad taste in your mouth. They rip off people who have nowhere else to turn. I am trying not to compare this to Pawn Stars but at least the offers are fair on that show. And on Pawn Stars you rarely see transactions for $5 dentures.
I guess the best way to sum it up is to say that on TruTV, a network that shows Operation Repo and Parking Wars, this one has sunk to the bottom of the barrel.

I can’t watch that show. I’ve been to Detroit a handful of times in my life, and have never enjoyed the experience. Which is a shame.
I wonder if a cities economy, and overall health, can be measured by the size of its pawnshops?

Horribly Scripted. Terrible, terrible acting. Lee wears the SAME OUTFIT every day. Seth can’t keep a straight face. Ashley is getting fatter, and fatter each episode! The producer tells the customers what to say, and what to do. This “Reality” t.v. show is so rehearsed it’s sick to watch. Just so sad that you have to make Detroit look like we are all “Hard Core” Total B*LL S#*T!

When people come to his store they are not forced to take a deal. He offers them the amount he can get it for so his business can make money and employ people. These customers act as if he HAS to give them money. He doesn’t HAVE to give them anything. And they can try somewhere else if they don’t like it but they probably would get the same offer at another pawn shop. So take it or leave it. They ARE all nuts in that family but they still have a business to run. He isn’t in business to give away money or barely make any, its called capitalism. The reason America is so great. He isn’t ripping people off.

A man who can smile and take someones last tangible item to feed their own family, that Les Gold. He turns around and gives them basically pennies per thousand of the items worth. Example- Les bought an antique wood stove that was worth approx 4500.00 thousand (looked it up on ebay). the couple wanted to pay for their daughters college books and asked for a few thousand at first, Les and fat ass-shely both looked at the poor couple and shook their hands and snidely replied ” Have a great day!” basically telling them to leave! the couple were so desperate they took his his $100 offer, laughing saying he was gonna make a killing on that stove!! hahahah!” I know what an asshole family the Gold’s are personally b/c a had a relative working for them for 2 years! I was told the truth about the family…. especially not on the show!! People come in with diamond earrings or gold worth some good $$, and when Les/Seth?ASS_SHLEY— they pretend its fake as shit really garbage and they actually throw it into this set up paper wastebasket looking like a real trash can. and they say ” this shit is so phony its garbage costume jewelery or CZ glass!!! Dont ever bring this into my store again, or I will throw you out?? If you are gullible like most of these people, who just walk out leaving their actually valued item in their trash can……. its REALLY SAD AND F’ED UP!!!! Les runs and fishes the items out on his hands and knees, looks up and says MOTHER F’ING BINGO BITCHES!!! THATS HOW YOU GET A M F’ER AND THATS A REAL PROFIT!!! He boasts that no one else can do that only him b/c hes the best and the owner!!! Also my relative told me that Ashley has IBS, bowel problems and has her “diarrhea potty” all to herself, and the smells permeate the entire lunchroom too!!! EWWW!!!

I am sick and tired of viewing “THE ASHLEY SHOW!” It seems like most of the shows consist of Ashley’s personal situations with her family, etc. She has no clue how to talk to people from the street in Detroit, and she is consistently putting her family and employees in danger. Moreover, her bad attitute is to the point where she should never be allowed to speak to a customer. Does 90% of the show have to be about Ashley??? I am going to quit watching if the show remains the way it is.

I have watched the show but have seen the same ones over and over. Do they ever make new ones? Their filthy language is also a turn-off for me, although they beep over the actual word it’s obvious what they say.And last but not least, Les always going to beat up the young punks. His bouncers quickly get between him and the other people to throw them out the store.

talk about TRAILER TRASH TV. this family is “bottom of the barrel” as far as human beings go. being a “pawn stars” watcher, when this show came out i thought “great” another pawn show. i watched several episodes of the first season and couldnt take anymore. they steal from customers then brag about it and the words “customer service” definitely do not apply at this store. how this show and others like it stay on tv i have no idea. and this isnt the only really bad show on tv. dog/bounty hunter, lizard lick (and the other towing shows)all those jerry springer type shows, that cajun pawn show, etc.. there are just too many to list. as we all know, there is an “ass” for every seat but thank god my ass doesnt sit and watch any of these “trailer trash reality shows”
i do want to thank the person who started this blog which let me voice my opinion and get it off my chest. his “bio” about this show and the GOLD family were right on the money.
p.s. if you look up the word “bitch” in the dictionary, there is a picture of Ashley there. the picture takes up most of the page tho cuz she is such a “FAT ASS”

I have some limited familiarity with the Detroit / Southfield pawn stores, I like to check in to see what they have for Swiss mechanical watches and sometimes tools / parts relating to same. This pawn shop is not what is pictured really – obviously it’s mostly for drama, but these are not pleasant people, even prior to this television show I found the father unpleasant and oddly dishonest – he didn’t want to open a watch back so I could confirm the movement (this is important in watches) or maybe he was just in a bad mood – but he was unpleasant and seemed dishonest – no one who knows anything about watches won’t view/show the movement under such circumstances. Well I watched the show because I live in Southeast Michigan and we know people in common and I am curious. I don’t like them, they seem awful.

I Live North of Detroit and took My 15 year old grandson to this place. After paying $25 for a cheap t-shirt, yes $25 , my grandson took it to Ashley to have her autograph it. Instead of saying hi or hello she said ” did you pay for that” which is uncalled for because they keep them behind the counter and the only way to get one is to pay for it first. I showed her the receipt and she then got friendly and signed his t-shirt. Zack and the old man were very friendly and signed his t-shirt, but after scoring $25 for a t-shirt I would be friendly too. They will also take a picture with you, which really made my grandson happy. This is not in the worst part of Detroit. It is right off 8 mile Rd. which is the northern border of Detroit. Still, bring your gun and have it ready as you normally would in a bad neighborhood. Recommend 9mm or larger.

I love watching this show and laughing my ass off at how stupid Seth is with his arrogant whinging and whining that he knows more than his father and that Ashley is always in his face and she knows nothing and he knows more than her. Hahahahahaha! Ashley sets herself up to be abused by Seth by continually harrassing and pointing out his flaws in full view of the customers. She should just step away and not let Seth antagonise her as she makes herself look more and more foolish when answering back to him. I love seeing how most of the so called customers resort to foul language and shouting and screaming at each other and the staff. How low class can you get. or should I say what a low class of breeding. Both black and whites.

What a sad family and I have to wonder how in the world they sleep at night ripping people off like they do.
They deserve every frigging dirt bag that stops in the store.
Two dudes come on with ninja padded suits, know they are worth $3K and they offer them 10 % of that amount. Thank goodness the guys walked away.
Then to watch them offer the guy $75 for the strike poster is just a shame!!!! Crimal assholes! I want to throw up!

I have never been to Detroit. The closest I’ve ever been is the movie 8 Mile. That being said, this pawn shop is sad. Sad employees (they don’t look happy). Sad customers (because they’ve been ripped off). Sad family (honestly, don’t call yourselves a family if you treat each other like that). I would bet that lots of the people in there pawning their things need to feed an addiction, but there are some who legitimately need diapers and food. They get ripped off. Just tonight Ashley bought four silver goblets that were Tiffany & Co. She paid the guy $575 for the lot of them. Her daddy told her they were worth about $2500 EACH. Also, the guy Seth has a net worth of $1M. As soon as the country stops watching, the net worth goes down. The dad is bound to be worth more, the sister a bit less. Sad that.

I just watched another repeat of this piece of garbage they call a TV show. I still laugh at the crap that goes on between Ashley and Seth. I watch your show all the time..but I am no longer going to be watching it..i have heard several people comment on this..even my grandmother..you people treat your customers like shit!!!! i was watching it tonight on tv and seen less use the F word and scream at a customer it looked like for no reason.. i have seen this several times…and am very dissapointed and am tired of hearing the FILTHY language come out of you peoples mouth its not the language you fucking ass wholes its to your customers is whats wrong..you dont use dirty language twards customers because they wont come back..if you want to continue having buisness i would watch how you treat your customers..i have been a buisness owner for years and have been cussed and spitt at and cursed and you name it.. but not ONCE have i ever cussed a customer out or treated them in such a way as you guys treat people..this is VERRYYY SADDD!!!! I enjoyed the show.. to a point. I first heard about it last week and I have watched all six seasons of shows. The first three or four were entertaining, and I am sure there were scripted parts in those, but it became extremely evident somewhere around the bermese ruby episode that there was some major scripting and setup going on. It’s a shame. Seth’s arrogance has gotten worse to the point of being annoying, but I still enjoy Ashley’s reactions (although they may be setup as well). Not enough to continue to look forward to the show anymore.

I have decided to quit watching Hard Core Pawn. At first, I was anxious to watch it, but I soon realized that Les, his son and daughter takes advantage of their customers. If you look around in there, all you see are African-Americans. That’s their customer base. However, the ones in position in the store are white. I’m speaking of Rich and the man behind the jewelry desk. So it appears as if the only ones that has any authority are indeed white. What’s the point in asking a person how much they are looking for, for what they bring in? They have no intention of paying it. I think it’s a set up just to give them an idea as to how low they are going to go.
I don’t like it when people take advantage of others. Seth went to college, but look at where he’s working… so what was the point? I can see helping out part-time, but here you have a college graduate spending his days in a pawn shop, arguing back and forth with his sister. I’m beginning to wonder if their arguments are really real. There is no need for such hostility…
Anything to have people watching. The show, in my opinion, is a scam and I will never watch it again. I refuse to sit back and watch them use people just to line their own pockets. It’s such a pathetic show.

I just saw the episode where Seth “ran out of cash,” at the store. The scene where Les pulls out a $9,000.00 from his pocket to pay for an expensive piece of jewelry was just ridiculous and unnecessary posturing. He then proceeds to remove a very large amount of money from the most basic of K-Mart safes that was clearly staged as well. The $25 sentry safe is a great place to store $100k… “Not to worry, Les has got it covered.” The emphatic slamming of the money on the table was over the top and yet another attempt at showcasing how badass the Gold family is. Afterwards, Seth casually remarks that he “has some change.” The outlandish portrayal of have and have not on this show is despicable.

I think when Assly’s old man gets tired of her big crude mouth and rather large ass,she shoud hook up with good ole Chumly.Les should change his clothes at least once a month.I would think he could afford a new coat and waredrobe the way he screws all those customers he is (helping out).You can tell Seth has learned from Les the art of dealing with the down and out,his life goal is to show all, he can exceed his father in taking advantage,of the poor.I wonder how brave Seth and Les would be without the bodyguards? This show should be called Asshole Pawn or Rip off Pawn. It is people like these that the IRS should be concerned about not waiters, teachers, or any other low wage or underpaid worker. Just once I would like to see one of those bitches get a beat down. They provoke fights and then surround themselves by security and say, “What are you gonna do now?” And yes, they’re all ugly. Whoever sticks it to Ashley no doubt married her for the money. I’m sure her husband frequently fantasizes about her demise so he can cash in.
I live on the east coast, originally from the cartel-infested, crime-ridden Texas-Northeast Mexico border, but I’d rather go shopping on either side of that border than to go shopping in Detroit. Not so much because of the gangs and crackheads up there but because of this asshole family. It makes me wonder if everyone up there is like them. I do know that they would not be able to pull this shit off in Texas for very long because somebody would make it a point to hand their asses to them.

Ashley needs to go home and annoy her husband some more until he snaps and wipes out his family. Les needs to change that sweater every couple of weeks and learn how to not lie to his clientele about wanting to help them. you’re being a little too unfair about seth. ashley on that show has acted just as badly and as awful as her dad les has. what you said about les was spot on, but what you said about seth was unfairly biased. the only thing wrong he might’ve done was that paintball thing. yeah, they should’ve at least reimbursed him the cost of the paintball pellets if they were knowingly going to go through all of them, but other than that, seth has acted more professional than ashley and les have in that show. you wrongfully defended ashley too damn much. you gave ashley too much undue credit. ashley has caused problems as well as those other two have. also, i read she’s instigated problems and caused trouble with customers. you say she had endured nonsense from the other family members, well i say they’ve endured her nonsense as well. there was an episode where on older guy, who was no longer married, and who was probably around les’s age, came in with two or three things to pawn, and she started trouble with him over nothing. she even went as far as asking if he was married(like that had anything to do what he was trying to pawn), he said no, and she said she could see why, and that upset him(just as it normally would’ve upset anyone) and he was saying how he didn’t insult her while he was making it clear she was insulting him. she has said and done wrongful things just like he brother seth and her dad les have done. all three of those family members have acted like horrible morons towards customers.

I’ve seen this show and agree with the review. I am sure the pitch for this show was “the pawn stars in Vegas are not running a real pawn shop, we will show you a real pawn shop!” Well, yes maybe, but they actually unintentionally prove the History channel’s show does everything right.
No crazy or desperate people, no or little pawns, and mostly collectors who want a good deal, but there are no eviction notices on their houses. Also, lots of interesting high end goods. The Harrisons get a good deal, but show they are not screwing anyone and actually have told people their goods were actually worth more. They look on TV more like a an interesting place to buy and sell than a pawn shop.
“Hardcore Pawn”? Its like the exact opposite of all the good ideas the Vegas show had. Desperate, crazy people? check. Gleefully screwing over said people? check. Instead of being a advertisement for the show, if I had an item and wanted to sell in Detroit, after watching this show going to them would be sheer desperation. You know your going to get screwed. They actually delight in it. The brother and sister owners are actually portrayed as if they hate each other..like Jerry Springer hate.
They wanted to “keep it real”. but that is a mistake, they look like scumbags and their sellers are crazy people. If they were nice on TV and screwed people over when the cameras were off, the hippocracy of it would be better.

i have recently started watching it,cant believe they talk to their staff the way they do,blaming them for things they didnt do,,,,but then they employ the lowest of the low to deal with the lowest of the low,,,,,i’d have told them what to do with their job by now,i think its all fake,why do they shout all the time? do they talk normally? i doubt it,and Ashley got no words to discribe her well i do but i wont,,,,,,,they are a horrible family,no loyalty to anyone not even themselves,living off poor peoples situations ,needless to say i wont be watching it again,,,

I’ve just watched an episode with the fake watch fiasco, Les apparently has been duped out of 5000 dollars. His son checks the serial number on a Web site and confirms it is a fake.Les then phones the guy to come back in to sell his other expensive watch and confronts him with a choice of paying him back or the police will be contacted. low and behold the guy said he has been duped and to his knowledge the watches are legitimate but understands and is willing to pay back the money which is fare enough.The alarm bells start ringing when this guy so happens to still have the 5000 concealed in an envelope in his back pocket and pays there and then, sorry but bullshit bullshit with cow bells on!!!

I like the show been watching it for a while now and sometimes I think the brother and sister on the show try to compete to be their fathers favorite. Alot of times the two clash because the ideas each have for making the shop run a little better may not coexist with the other. Also what’s up with all the weird people who come in the shop acting as if they don’t have common sense. As far as the brother and sister I also think their dad sometimes let them two argue over nothing before he intervene.

I do have something to say. This show is totally fake. You’d think they would at least try to make it look like it is real. The blimpy big mouth daughter is soooo soooo rude. It’s actually hard to watch her. She is always making some weird facial expression. Check it out. Watch her strange expressions. There is one thing on this show that I have to say is a positive thing. The African American employees on the show are portrayed in a positive way. The personal body guards they employ to protect the dysfunctional family golds. I honestly can not understand why the quest network would want such a turd of a show. I guess I am finished giving my true feelings of the turd family. We can only pray for these evil people and this will make us all better people.
