Before I start, any time I mention The Flintstones is a good excuse to post my favorite episode:
I hope you enjoyed that, unless Hanna Barbera sent some goons over to force me to take them down.
And while I’m at it, my favorite Flintstones name? Joe Rockhead, no question.

The Flintstones comic strip, which if you’ve read any of these comic strip blogs you won’t be surprised to hear I never heard of before, ran from 1961 to at least 1998 and some sources claim it still runs in some places though I can’t prove it. For all I know some penny-saver in some hick town gets this strip. They run from faithful to the original cartoon to social commentary. Behold!
Did you catch that? They got Yabba Dabba Doo wrong! They forgot the “y”!

The strip is not bad, though, the one about Barney and the bird is a bit trite, but it makes me laugh 😀

I liked it too, even the out-of-character Santa strip.

I also didn’t know there was a strip, though I did have several Flintstones comic books in the 1970s. I have little memory of how faithful to the show they may have been.
The hammock strip may as well have come from the first season (or, indeed, the first episode) of the show. And the mayor gag is one of those standard jabs that could have come from nearly any strip at all — Hagar the Horrible, Motley’s Crew, Wizard of Id; still, as the “modern stone age family,” The Flintstones got there first (by several million years).

For those not in the know, Mr. Barnhill is, among his many other talents, a foremost expert on The Flintstones.
He also brings up an interesting point. Which strip takes place further back in time, The Flintstones or Wizard of Id?

Well, isn’t Wizard of Id pretty middle-ages? It seems to me the real competition is between Johnny Hart’s other strip, B.C., and The Flintstones.
(I mean chronologically, humour-wise there’s no comparison.)
I choose to believe all three strips take place simultaneously, in a future catering to fetishist reenactors.

Week in and week out I find things I had no idea existed for this feature. This week is one everyone already knew- Disney, but the week after that is a real rarity.
